Black beauty pageant winners put hair in gorgeous spotlight

We’ve known it all along but it’s nice to see the world recognize it, too, that black is beautiful. The beauty pageant world, at the highest level, is finally getting to see gorgeous array of hairstyles for black women. In an unprecedented coincidence, are all African American title holders in the top spots: the United States has Nia Franklin, this year’s Miss America; Kaliegh Garris, Miss Teen USA. And in regal beauty on the world stage, South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi regins supreme as Miss Universe.

From Insider magazine: People told Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi to wear a wig for the Miss Universe pageant. She won wearing her natural hair.

Miss Universe’s black beauty queens from Africa: Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola and more, from The Caribbean: British Virgin Islands, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and other nations.

Even in Europe, Black and biracial women from countries such as Ireland and Iceland are showing their curls and allowing their hair-itage to shine on stage.
